Ageing, therefore marginal: demographic trends and institutional capacity in marginal Chilean municipalities

In Global South countries, ageing is an incoming phenomenon with socio-spatial implications that are not much explored yet. North countries already facing trends significant territorial consequences, such as declining populations contribute to making certain areas marginal. However, different factors may determine the marginality of a municipality or region in other settings. Drawing on these premises, paper discusses whether demographic also setting. The focuses case Chile, country characterised by inequalities and population becoming older. doing so, it has twofold purpose: first, examine census data define what currently experiencing decline if correspond national policies marginal; second, official documents consider extent both local development plans element marginality.
